I always envied my friend Elizabeth at work. She was a fantastic salesperson and a superb cook. However, I could never understand how she got consistently overlooked by men, though she was pretty and smart. Men seemed to look through her at any gathering or a party, though she could banter and chat really nice and was a great person to have a nice conversation with. So, once I decided to “accidentally” overhear a conversation she was having with an attractive male colleague, and I could not believe it that the person who was otherwise so well-versed in the art of speech was a novice in the art of flirt!
Flirting is a great way of building up rapport. It essentially helps loosen someone up, relax them, and making sure that they feel more comfortable and confident in your presence. It can be a great method of boosting your own ego, and certainly is a lot of fun seeing the tough companion of yours dissolving into helpless peals of laughter at a quick quip you have just made in front of him/her. You can always make someone smile with a few chosen words, and flirting lessens the defense the person puts up front, and opens them up, ready for a good time. It is also a harmless piece of fun, and if you know where to stop and where to get serious, can really work for you to build up your image as a smart, sophisticated person of the world.
